The annual Red Rooster Gypsy Day party is always a good time and this year was no exception.  Traditionally, there is a mini-stage and tables set up in parking spaces outside for solo-acoustic acts and after dark, the show moves inside for some electric rock and roll.  I’m quite familiar with this annual show as in years past, my bands Junebug, Fed By Doris, and The Blue Orange have all been participants.  This is the first time, however, that I have played solo at the Gypsy Day show.

There were a number of performers on the outdoor stage tonight including, but not limited to, Anthony Bergman, Alex Forred, one of the Hooks boys, and me.

I played mostly the same songs I’ve been playing lately, but it’s okay because the crowd was a bit different than the past couple times.  I also played a familiar favorite from the Fed By Doris days… was it Dig Dug?  No.  Was it Da Bomb?  Nope.  It was the Jeremy Storly hit, Cheez Whiz Man.  I started also to play a song from my album, Horrid Little Man.  “Back to Illinois” is a song that I’ve never played live before since it’s pretty much just electronic loops.  But I created a acoustic version which I forgot how to play.  Hence, the abandonment half-way through.   Yeeks.

It was nice to see folks there that actually appreciate my music for real.  Trevor and Jeremy were right up front.  Liza was there, of course.  And poor, poor Stephan.  She always misses my shows by five minutes.

Anyhow, it was a good time.  A good Gypsy Day indeed.  Huge thanks to everyone who came out!
