Regarding Bill Clinton

[This entry was originally posted on my MySpace blog. It was transferred to WordPress on 1/20/2013.]

As you are undoubtedly aware, Bill Clinton granted an interview to Fox News’s Chris Wallace.  After talking briefly about his global initiatives to help third-world (or I guess “developing” is PC now) countries, Chris Wallace asked (on behalf of viewer emails apparently), “Why didn’t you do more to put Bin Laden and Al Qaeda out of business when you were president?”  Former President Clinton got upset.  He went on a tirade exclaiming his position on this so-called issue and got very defensive.  As John Stewart said on The Daily Show, we saw two Clintons – the angry Clinton and the informative Clinton.  So which does the media prefer to portray?

Well, last night, like many other good little Americans I was in bed flipping channels and I stopped on CNN.  They’re a reliable news source, right?  Well obviously, they handled the story like professionals.  They sent a woman to the street to get public opinion, asking “What do you think of Clinton’s meltdown?” and “Do you think he was acting?”  “Did his finger wagging remind you of anything?”  [cut to finger-wagging in video clip: I did not have sexual relations with that woman]  Citizen on the street: “That’s not all that was wagging.”

But perhaps the highlight of the entire story was when they drew attention to the fact that Clinton’s socks were not pulled all the way up when he crossed his legs.  He was showing some leg skin.  How could I have missed that?!?  I guess I was too busy actually listening to what he was saying and weighing the impact of the implications and pondering the consequenses of the magnitude of the accusations.

But of course, CNN is a reputable news source, so whatever they focus on must be the real news.  Why worry about whether or not the Bush administration is properly focused on actual war-time enemies?  Why debate the claim that the current president may not have done as much as he should have to prepare for disasters?  Why on earth would anybody research Mr. Clinton’s claims to see if what he is saying is true?  I mean, come on!  Finger wagging and fallen socks?  THAT is the story!

This is the world in which I live.
Damn it.
